This developing photographic series attempts to stage a series of juxtapositions, in which figurative and abstract forms collide. On the one hand the work is readable in photographic terms, while on the other hand the work acknowledges elements of Painting, through formal colour composing and overlayed gestures. In previous photographic work a sweeping line is often added to a combination of images. This line, or gesture functions to flatten out space, to acknowledge the picture plane and the “object-ness” of the image. This ‘gesture’ has potential to become a physically collaged component.
